IMPACT CASE

PERSONAL DESIGN PROJECT

Inspired by road cases used for live sound events, this enclosure was designed to reduce impact damage of electronic components as well as protect against dust and moisture. The intent was to explore the sheet metal tools native to the Solidworks environment. The 3D model was then imported into Keyshot 7 to explore render techniques such as staging, material textures, and lighting.

Drawing on previous experience in sheet metal design (using Autodesk Inventor) and experience programming sheet metal punch presses during my work with Adamson Systems Engineering, I quickly picked up on the subtle differences between the two programming environments.

The result was an easily scalable case design that features rubber shock absorption in all eight corners and standard rack unit dimensions to house the components. Damage from dust and moisture is mitigated using a rubber seal on the front and back access panels. The case is riveted for maximum strength and durability.
